The thought of school can be frightening to some students, it makes them lose confidence and so many times get depressed. It is expected because no one wants to fail, and not just to fail, but to discover that you don’t know the reason why. A lot of students put a lot of work into their studies just to discover that their results do not correlate with their efforts too well.

The truth, it is possible as a student, it is possible to go about your studies wrongly irrespective of the effort you put into getting the right result. When other important factors are not followed, you should only pass, and not get your desired results. When the right approach is not followed concerning the desired goal, you should expect an undesired result.

The desire to become a good student and make good grades should be followed with an intentional attitude. This article covers some of the factors that can help you become a better student who makes good grades.


MINDSET

This is the most important factor to be dealt with. Nothing can really change about your reality and results until you change the mindset you have towards your academics. You need to make yourself believe that you can be the best and can work out the best. If you are the kind of student that gets comfortable with a C or D, that is what you are going to prepare for. Your body automatically gets tired when you try to do anything above C or D. That’s how it works, convict yourself not to settle for anything less than an A. You can list all your courses and attach your desired grade beside it, paste it on the wall in your room, it helps your subconscious know what you are working towards. To support your mind do better towards your academics is your PASSION

·        PASSION: You will find it difficult to put the right effort towards your academics if you do not love your field of study. Your passion helps you go the extra mile. You will find it difficult to get yourself back up when things do not go exactly as planned. Your passion pushes you to want to succeed no matter what people say to you. Maybe you don’t have enough passion for your field, the good thing is that passion can grow, with consistency and practice.

SELF ASSESSMENT                   

Having the right mindset and great passion for your academics will not do much if there is no proper assessment and planning. As a student, do not allow the day activities to carry you throughout without your decisions. Set your priorities. These are the factors you should consider;

·        Mode of study: Know what mode of study works better for you, how do you feel comfortable studying, some study better in the day, some at night, some in the lively environment, some very quiet environments. With these, you will know how to utilize your time so you can be more productive.

·        Your Activities: What other activity are you engaged in? maybe you are part of a club or group that has its activities during your study time, learn to set priorities, engage yourself in some activities in order of priorities. Do not exempt yourself from social activities, but you should know when it is getting the better of your academics and stop.

·        Study Plan: Do you have a study plan? Well, you must do so. Set a time to study and ensure that nothing takes it away from you. Set a target in your study routine to cover a particular portion and ensure you do so before you stop.



DISCIPLINE

Making proper plans and resolutions without the discipline to carry them out, is as good as nothing, you are not going to achieve much. It’s just a matter of time until you see yourself getting back to who you used to be. Whatever plans you make be disciplined enough to carry them out. Also, be disciplined to do the following;

·    Do your projects or homework yourself: You are only doing yourself badly if you delegate your project to someone to do. Make sure you have full knowledge of your projects, you can ask for help, but make you have full knowledge of the project.

·        Attend Classes: Attending classes helps you have an idea of some of the areas you have to concentrate on in your study. In class, you have the opportunity to ask questions and learn from the questions of others. You might not understand everything while reading alone. In class, you get the syllabus which helps you know where to concentrate on.

·        Study Thoroughly: Studying is an activity any student who wants to do well cannot neglect. Give yourself to studying, it opens a lot about your course and prepares you for your exams. Also don’t just study, try to cover topics with the help of your syllabus ahead of your teacher, you might not grasp everything then, but you will definitely be in class.

·        Try yourself out with past questions if available, this will also prepare you for exams

ASSOCIATION

Make sure your association encourages you towards being better. Have like-minded friends, those who also want good grades, those who can help you and put you through some difficulties. When you have people who do not share your vision as close friends, you will find it difficult to comfortably go about your plans, but those who call you back when you want to do something different from your plans towards your academics are the best for you

Also, try to keep a good relationship with your teachers, they can help in encouraging you to do better, keeping good relationships with them gives boldness most times to speak up in class and be cleared.

GO THE EXTRA MILE

As a student, you can do some extraordinary things to get awesome results. Don’t just be confined with what you are offered in class, you can add more test books to the ones used generally in your school to get better knowledge about your course, some test books explain some topics better than the other. You might be surprised to get a simpler approach to the one taught in class. Also, you can try to get some experience about your course, you can experiment on things discussed in class by yourself, it gives you better knowledge and retentiveness.

STAY HEALTHY

Your health as a student is very important, make sure you have adequate sleep and proper food to keep your system working properly. Don’t force yourself to study when you are obviously breaking down, take care of yourself as a student. Socialization and leisure are also important for your health it helps relieve stress.

Most importantly, know that you can achieve success and still do well, irrespective of your academics’ status, Put in your best, you can start today to be a better student.
